Connemara National Park & Area

Landscape conservation is the aim of the Connemara National Park. Open from May to the end of September, it has a variety of activities for all the family with walks, talks, audiovisual show, Connemara ponies, and a new display depicting the development of the Connemara landscape over 10,000 years. Also included are exhibits of the local boglands and of Connemara's flora and fauna.

Kylemore lies at the top of the Inagh Valley and is hidden between the mountains of Connemara and the Atlantic ocean. The mountainous valley around Kylemore is an area of old oakwoods which terrace the mountainside. The area is also famous for angling on the three Kylemore Ioughs, an appealing and refreshing character of the area.

Ceide Feilds

The Céide Fields are the oldest known field systems in the world, over five and a half millennia old. It is a unique Neolithic landscape of world importance, which has changed our perception of our Stone Age ancestors. The remains of stone field walls, houses and megalithic tombs are preserved beneath a blanket of peat over several square miles. They tell a story of the everyday lives of a farming people, their organized society, their highly developed spiritual beliefs, and their struggle against a changing environment beyond their control.

Sligo Area

The Sligo area is famous for its association with W.B Yeats the famous poet and Nobel Prize winner for literature. Co. Sligo Golf Club was founded in 1894 on land leased from Henry Middleton, an uncle of W.B Yeats. Take time to visit the Grave of W.B. Yeats at Drumcliff when you are playing golf in the Sligo area. Strandhill Beach is only a short distance away and is enjoyed by surfers and sun-seekers alike.
