This is a recap of all the events we have attended in the months of March & April this year.
Scandinavian PGA Conference 7th – 9th March– Halmstad Sweden
John travelled to Halmstad in Sweden via Copenhagen to attend the Scandinavian PGA Conference. He shared the Golf Plaisir Stand with Mikael Erdtman and they had a busy few days. John met with Cameron McCormick, Jordan Speith’s Coach who was the guest speaker. He is an interesting guy.
We had sent sample packages to Golf Plaisir prior to the Conference and they had them translated and on offer during the event. There was big interest from the 300+ delegates and consequently we have promised a Fam Trip for Golf Plaisir for October. We are targeting 12 Swedish and 4 Danish Pros along with 2 reps from Golf Plaisir, including Mikael. Tourism Ireland will pay for the flights, we have to work on the hotels, golf and transport. The target from Mikael is 10 groups of 12 per year to us, they are sending 2000 golfers to Spain / Portugal per year.
Meitheal – Fáilte Ireland Workshops Dublin March 28th – 29th
Both Paul and Ian attended Meitheal in City West. Prior to this on 28th they had a meeting with Rogue in Dublin. They are our web providers and they went through proposed changes to our new website. They then met with Donal McEvoy to discuss clothing for some groups that we have coming in this year.
They attended Meitheal on 29th and had a full days meeting with International Tour Operators.
Tourism Ireland Fam Trip Northern Ireland 22nd – 29th April
Tourism Ireland organised a Fam trip for US and Canadian Journalists into Northern Ireland. Some of them played Rosapenna and Ballyliffin on a pre fam. The courses played were Castlerock, Portstewart, Royal Portrush, Ardglass and Royal Co Down and they played Portmarnock prior to departing Dublin. John met with the group in Ardglass and went through all of our courses. They all had our brochure and we have been liaising with some of them since their trip.
Nick Edmund – Global Golf 4 Cancer 24th April and 29th / 30th April
Both Richard Faherty (CEO of Cancer Care West ) and John travelled to Ballyconneely on 24th April to catch up with Nick and walk the Ballyconneely – Roundstone leg with him. They had a good chance to catch up, plan publicity going forward and chat about how best to move forward before the next leg.
Newry, Mourne and Down Golf Familiarisation Trip
26th 27th & 28thApril
John attended the Newry, Mourne and Down Golf Fam Trip. He stayed in The Slieve Donard on 26th and met everyone at Ardglass on 27th. It is great to see how involved this Council has become with Golf and with Ardglass and we would like to express our gratitude for their continued support of North & West Coast Links. He had a great day at Ardglass. Along with the International Press who attended, it was great to see and meet again Brian Keogh, Linton Walsh and the other Irish scribes.
