Westport Golf Club
Westport Golf Club is an 18 hole championship golf course, designed by renowned international golf course architects Fred Hawtree and Sons, situated in Mayo. In 1908 Westport Golf Club was founded at Trafalgar Park, now known as Horkan’s Hill, just a ten minute walk from Westport town centre. Since 1973, the course, laid out on over two hundred and fifty acres of rolling parkland, has received the National recognition it deserves. Westport has played host to such notable events as the Ladies Home Internationals in 1989 and the Irish Close Championship on four occasions (the latest in 2005 when Rory McIlroy won), Paul McGinley, Europe team captain for the 2014 Ryder Cup, shot a course record 65 on his way to capturing the Smurfit PGA Championship in 2002.
A magnificent view of Westport golf course, Clew Bay and Ireland’s Holy Mountain Croagh Patrick, can be seen from the bar & restaurant area. The locals will tell you that the best time to avail of this vista is late afternoon, from mid May to August, when a setting sun seems to be rolling down the side of Croagh Patrick.
Situated right in the heart of the west, Westport Golf Club is ideally located to start your golf tour around the North and West of Ireland.
