The Dubai Duty Free Irish Open is set to return to Northern Ireland later this year. The Rory Foundation again will host the event, with Portstewart Golf Club the confirmed venue from July 6-9, 2017. With little under 50 days left until the Irish Open, anticipation and excitement surrounding the event is beginning to surmount.
John attended the Media Day for the DDF Irish Open which was held at Portstewart GC on the 17th of May. He managed to catch up with a number of people throughout the day. Here he is below with Shane O’Donoghue and Paul Dunne.
There were a number of other attendees including Michael Moss, the Tournament Director at Portstewart Golf Club, as well as representatives from the Rory Foundation, Dubai Duty Free, The European Tour and Tourism Northern Ireland, who are all heavily involved in the event. After the Q&A there was a competition held for all media attendees, allowing them to experience the course and any new changes the club may have made in the months leading up to the Irish Open.
Since the DDF Irish Open is included in the European Tour’s new Rolex Series for the 2017 season, the price fund is now at a record setting €7 million and is gearing up to be the biggest event in the tournaments history. There will be an estimated 20,000 spectators descending upon the town everyday, in the hope of catching a glimpse of some of the worlds top golfers in action.
A number of high profile players have already confirmed they will be participating in this year’s competition.
