Time and time again, our customers are left feeling encapsulated by the spectacular links golf courses along the North and West Coast of Ireland. Below is a short account from one of our happy customers.
“We are a group of close friends and avid golfers from the United States who for the past 21 years have been trekking across the globe in search of the world’s greatest golf courses and golf experiences. Virtually all of us belong to highly regarded private golf clubs in the United States but these are parkland courses whereas our passion and preference is to play authentic links courses.
We’ve had the privilege of playing some of the world’s finest golf courses in numerous countries including Scotland, England, Wales, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Mexico, Canada, Iceland, Dominican Republic and Jamaica. However, our favorite golf destination on the planet is without question Ireland – and the North and West Coast of Ireland to be specific. This is one reason I’m planning my 11th visit to Ireland in July 2017!
The links golf available within these two distinct geographic areas of Ireland is simply superb. Visually stunning. Incredibly challenging. Outrageously fun. They are as good (if not better) than any of the other links courses within Ireland if not the world. We’ve played every single one of the North and West Coast Links member courses – many of them on multiple occasions – and they are all spectacular in their own right. Truly national treasures.
Most experts agree that only about 250 authentic links golf courses exist throughout the entire world and Ireland is blessed to be home to nearly one fourth (1/4th) of them. National Club Golfer, a prestigious golf organization in the United Kingdom, recently published their definitive list of the Top 100 Links Courses in Great Britain & Ireland. A list like that has never been created before. Upon reviewing their list I discovered our group has played 23 of their Top 25 Courses, 42 of their Top 50 Courses and 69 of their Top 100 Courses. Not surprisingly, all 9 of the championship links that are member courses of the North and West Coast Links are ranked among their Top 100 Courses.
Many folks who plan a “bucket list” trip to Ireland make the same common and unfortunate mistakes. They try to cover too much ground in too short a period of time and tend to focus primarily on the “big name” courses. While courses like Royal County Down, Ballybunion, Lahinch, Tralee, Portmarnock and The Old Head are all wonderful courses and not to be missed – most golfers would be better off creating 2 or 3 separate trips that allowed them the time and flexibility to play these courses (along with some other great courses) at a much more relaxed and leisurely pace.
And again, if you want to experience the wild, rugged and natural beauty of Ireland at its finest – you MUST visit the extraordinary collection of authentic links courses along the North and West Coast. Commit these names to memory: Carne, Enniscrone, Donegal, Narin & Portnoo, Rosapenna, Portsalon, Ballyliffin, Castlerock, Portstewart, Royal Portrush and Ardglass. Golf simply doesn’t get any better than this and I guarantee you a fabulous experience.
God Bless Ireland. God Bless the Irish People. And God Bless the Irish Links Courses.” – Jon Heisler, Washington DC
